1

Open the app

Read and accept the Terms and Privacy Policy on the first screen.

2

Turn on one shortcut

The volume button or your phone's assistant gesture.Set the app as your phone's assistant. Follow the steps below.

3

Hold, then draw

On any screen, use your shortcut and draw over text to copy it, or around anything to crop it.

Choose how you open it

You only need one of these. You can turn on both if you like.

Turn on the Volume Button Trigger

In the app, tap Turn On on the Volume Button Trigger card and accept the short explanation. The app then shows these steps; tap Next to see each one, then Open Settings to go to your phone's Accessibility settings. Then:

1

Open installed apps

Tap Installed apps. On some phones it's called Downloaded apps or Downloaded services.

2

Find the app

Tap Screenshot Copy paste. It shows Off for now.

3

Switch it on

Turn on the Screenshot Copy paste switch.

4

Allow it

Android asks you to confirm. Tap Allow, then go back to the app.

✅ Now try it: on any screen, hold Volume Up for half a second. Your phone buzzes and the screenshot editor opens. A quick press still changes the volume as usual. When it's on, the card in the app shows a green tick and "Hold Volume Up to capture screen". To use Volume Down instead, tap Trigger Settings on that card.
🔒 Why Accessibility? Android only lets an app see the volume buttons through the Accessibility Service. The app uses it for the volume buttons, and to take the screenshot and read the on-screen text at the moment you hold the button, so the words you pick are copied exactly. It never reads what you type or password fields, and nothing is uploaded. Read the details.

Set it as your phone's assistant

In the app, tap Set on the Set as Default Assistant card. The app shows these steps too; tap Next to see each one, then Open Settings. Then:

1

Open Digital assistant app

Tap Digital assistant app. On some phones it's called Assist app or Device assistance app.

2

Tap the default assistant

Tap Default digital assistant app. It shows Google or None for now.

3

Choose the app

Pick Screenshot Copy paste from the list.

4

Confirm

Android asks you to confirm. Tap OK, then go back to the app.

✅ Now open it the way your phone opens its assistant: hold the Power button, or hold the Home button (3-button navigation), or swipe up from a bottom corner (gesture navigation).
💡 Holding Power opens the power-off menu? Look in your phone's settings for "Press and hold power button" (often under System → Gestures or Side key) and choose Digital assistant. Or simply use the volume button shortcut instead.

Allow "Display over other apps"

On some phones (often Xiaomi, Redmi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme) the editor can only open on top of other apps with this permission. Once a shortcut is on, the app shows a popup asking for it.

1

Tap Allow in the popup

The app opens the right settings page for you.

2

Find the app (if a list shows)

If you see a list of apps, tap Screenshot Copy paste.

3

Switch it on

Turn on Allow display over other apps, then go back.

Copy text: just draw over it

Open the editor with your shortcut. Then run your finger over the words you want. They turn green, and you can copy them right away.

A finger draws a line under a web link in a post

1. Draw a line over the text

Swipe across the words you want, like underlining them. One line, several lines: both work.

The selected link is highlighted green with a Copy button above it

2. Tap Copy, then paste

Drag the green handles to select more or less. Tap Copy, then long-press any text box (a chat, a note, a search bar) and tap Paste. Or tap Search to look the words up.

➖ Draw a line where there is no textA crop box is made over that area
🟢 Drag the green handlesSelect more or fewer words
✕ Tap the XClose the editor (nothing is saved)
⚡ Tip: you can start drawing the moment the editor opens. In most apps the app reads the text exactly as it is shown on screen, so what you copy matches letter for letter.

Crop a picture: draw around it

Want part of the screen as an image, like a photo, a product or a chart? Circle it, then copy it and paste it wherever you like.

A finger draws a circle around a plant photo

1. Draw around it

A rough circle is fine. The app turns it into a neat crop box.

2. Adjust, then Copy

Drag the corners to resize. Tap Copy to copy just that part as an image, or the round Lens button to search for it.

3. Paste it anywhere

In a chat, an email, a note or an AI assistant: long-press the message box and tap Paste.

Where does a copied screenshot go?

Copying is for quick sharing: no extra photo lands in your gallery. Here is exactly what happens.

1

You tap Copy

The editor closes and you see "Copied to clipboard". If text was selected, the text is copied; otherwise the crop (or the whole screenshot) is copied as an image.

2

It waits on the clipboard

The image is kept as a temporary file inside the app's own private storage. It is not added to your gallery or photos, and other apps can only read it when you paste it.

3

You paste it

Long-press a message or text box and tap Paste, or pick it from your keyboard's clipboard. Works in chats, email, notes, documents and AI assistants that accept images.

Draw, point things out, and blur

Tap the brush button at the top right of the editor. A toolbar opens with everything below; tap the ✕ next to it to close it.

Look things up with Lens and Search

Two buttons send what you picked to a search app on your phone, so you can find a product, identify a plant, translate a sign or learn more about a word.

🔍 Lens button (pictures)

The round white button at the bottom right.

  1. Optional: draw around the thing you want to search, so only that part is sent. Otherwise the whole screenshot is used, with any drawing on it.
  2. Tap the Lens button.
  3. The picture opens in Google Lens (part of the Google app), which shows matching products, places, plants, animals, or text you can translate or copy.

🔎 Search button (words)

Appears at the bottom after you select text.

  1. Draw over the words you want to look up.
  2. Tap Search.
  3. Your phone's search app opens with those words. If there isn't one, a web search opens in your browser.
ℹ️ Good to know: Lens needs the Google app, which most Android phones already have. If Lens isn't available, the app offers to open the picture in the Google app or another app that can view images; if nothing can, you see "Google Lens not found". Your picture or words go to the search service only when you tap the button, and that service's own privacy policy applies. Don't want the button? Hide it in Menu ☰ → Settings → Button Visibility.

Holding the volume button does nothing
  1. Make sure the Volume Button Trigger is on: in the app, its card shows a green tick. If it shows Turn On, follow Option A again.
  2. Hold the button a little longer, about half a second, until the phone buzzes.
  3. Check you're holding the right button: the card says which one, and Trigger Settings changes it.
  4. Just changed the volume? The shortcut pauses for 3 seconds after a quick press so it doesn't get in the way. Wait a moment and hold again.
It stopped working after an update or a restart
Some phones switch Accessibility services off after an app update. Open your phone's Settings → Accessibility → Installed apps → Screenshot Copy paste and turn it on again. If your phone has battery saving for apps, set Screenshot Copy paste to Unrestricted / No restrictions so Android doesn't stop it.
Android says "Restricted setting" when I try to turn it on
This can happen on Android 13 and newer for apps not installed from Google Play. Open Settings → Apps → Screenshot Copy paste, tap the ⋮ menu at the top right, choose Allow restricted settings, then turn the service on again.
The editor doesn't open on top of other apps
Allow Display over other apps, as shown in this section. On Xiaomi phones, also check App info → Other permissions → Display pop-up windows while running in the background.
Holding Power or Home opens Google instead
Your phone's assistant was set back to Google. Follow the assistant steps again and choose Screenshot Copy paste.
The copied text has a mistake
Text in pictures (photos, videos, images) is recognised automatically, which can sometimes get a letter wrong, especially with small, blurry or decorated text. Zoom in on the picture before you take the screenshot for better results, and check important details like numbers and codes before using them. Text that is part of the app on screen is usually copied exactly.
Are my screenshots uploaded anywhere?
No. Screenshots, the text on your screen and what you copy stay on your phone. Text is recognised offline. See the Privacy Policy.
Where do I find my User ID for support?
Open the app, tap Menu ☰ at the top left, then My Account. Your 10-digit User ID is at the top; tap the copy icon next to it.
How do I turn the shortcuts off?
  • Volume button: Settings → Accessibility → Installed apps → Screenshot Copy paste → switch off.
  • Assistant: Settings → Apps → Default apps → Digital assistant app → choose another assistant or None.
